Sado’s sake places do not form one easy brewery street beside the ferry. The ferry arrives at Ryotsu Port; Obata Shuzo’s main brewery is in Manoshinmachi, while its Gakkogura (School Brewery) is in Nishimikawa. Treat these as three separate locations when arranging a short visit.
Start with the ferry, not the tasting time

First stop: Obata Shuzo’s main brewery

It describes Ryotsu Port as roughly 30 minutes away by car and identifies Manoshinmachi on the South Line as the nearest bus stop, about five minutes’ walk from the brewery. This is the relatively simple of the two brewery-related destinations to locate by public transport, but you must verify bus frequency and the last connection.

Second stop: Gakkogura is farther south
Gakkogura was created from a former elementary school in Nishimikawa, and Obata’s official tasting page lists the meeting point as 1871 Nishimikawa, Sado. Do not expect that a ticket to Ryotsu or a casual Obata shop visit automatically includes a trip to Gakkogura.
For a short island stay, a pre-arranged vehicle or a well-checked taxi plan is safer than inventing an easy direct bus connection. Ask the host or local tourism office what transport is realistic for your arrival day.
Sequence the journey around the hardest booking
If you already have Gakkogura tour acceptance, anchor the entire day to that confirmed time. Otherwise, decide whether the main brewery and nearby Mano area can satisfy your sake interest without a long transfer. Do not stack two separate brewery visits into a day trip unless the transport provider confirms the connections.
