A weekend in Hiroshima can be enough for a walk through Saijo’s historic sake-brewery district—but you should not assume that every tasting counter, shop and guided tour runs on Saturday or Sunday. Saijo Sakagura-dori is easy to explore as a street; brewery access is a separate question.
The street is walkable even when a shop is closed
The historic brewery facades and compact neighbourhood near JR Saijo Station make the area worth exploring independently. Walking past seven breweries, however, is not the same as joining seven tastings. A visitor needs to check which spaces each brewery actually opens to the public.
Use the tourism association’s changing opening-hours chart
Higashihiroshima City Tourism Association publishes an English opening-hours table that separates weekend dates and ordinary weekdays. It warns that hours can change without notice. The chart dated October 2026, for example, lists different Sunday availability across named breweries. Treat it as a current planning tool, not a permanent weekly promise.
What about the guided three- and seven-brewery tours?
The local association currently advertises a shorter three-brewery English-guided tour on weekdays and a seven-brewery guided tour on Mondays and Fridays. That means their published pattern should not be read as a generic weekend departure. Always check the seller’s selectable date and current conditions rather than relying on this article for availability.
A good weekend decision
If your travel dates are fixed to a weekend, design a flexible walk around currently open tasting venues. If an English-led tasting is central to your visit and you can move the date, check a bookable guided departure first. Allow a generous break and do not plan to drive after sampling.
Before you board the train
Confirm you’re heading to JR Saijo Station, not the Shinkansen station called Higashi-Hiroshima. Review the opening table again on your travel day. Save the official source on your phone so that changes are easy to find while on the street.
Questions before you go
Can I go to Saijo on Sunday?
Yes, you can explore the district, but individual public openings and tastings vary.
Do Saijo guided sake tours run every Saturday?
Do not assume that. Check current departure calendars for your chosen product.
